Hardwood Floor Edger Sander
When you start an edger you will want to lay it on its side, preferably making sure the power switch is in the off position. How to Properly Use an Edger
Edging begins with the first rough cut and the 36 or 40 grit paper after the first pass on the drum sander. By forcing, you will see distinct patterns between where the edger and the drum sander were. You may think the final projection will take care of it, but once a finish hits the floor, it will blow your mind. For example, if you are using 36, 60, and 80 grit with the drum, the same should be followed with the edger. See appropriate sequences and tips
Video Transcript
The edger is used where the drum or belt sander cannot reach. There are situations where the starting grit can go down like we see here, but that situation was a heavily waxed floor that needed some serious attention. It's all a matter of analyzing the condition before, but for most floors, occasional back and forth motions are used, followed by a more common circular motion that maintains a consistent scratch pattern.
After the floor is filled with cracks and allowed to dry, a finer grit of 60 is used for the second sanding sequence of the edger. Where the flooring is parallel to the skirting, the movement is less pronounced, otherwise we will have transverse scratches which we do not want. The last and last sequence before the pad shown here is usually 80 grit and follows the same procedures as the second sequence after the big machine has done its job.
